The reluctant workaholic

While I love my work, I would love to read something and write on this blog every day, which is a challenge when work appears never-ending!

Where did the day go, I lament

No leisure time, no entertainment

Work like an all-consuming fire

Has clouded over every desire

To relax and unwind, drift and dream

Work is a time sink, so it may seem

After I clock in twelve hours or more

I leave for home, with more work in store

The avalanche of e-mails I have to now tackle

Every deadline now has the feel of a shackle

One by one, each issue raises its tiny head

When all I crave for is the warmth of my bed

There’s so much to do, and never enough time

Relaxation I view as a concept sublime

I keep hoping the next day is better

But work appears to be a constant stream

Lopsided is the work-life balance beam

Even as I try to divert myself

(By writing this petulant verse, what else?)

Texts arrive again from the workplace

I cannot be alone in my space!!!
